{"id":2690,"date":"2024-09-20T16:34:35","date_gmt":"2024-09-20T14:34:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vivreaveclesecrans.actioninnocence.org\/?page_id=2690"},"modified":"2024-10-14T12:17:19","modified_gmt":"2024-10-14T10:17:19","slug":"exposure-to-violent-and-pornographic-content","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/vivreaveclesecrans.actioninnocence.org\/en\/living-with-screens\/exposure-to-violent-and-pornographic-content\/","title":{"rendered":"Exposure to violent and pornographic content"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>This type of content may appear:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>in a message (e-mail, instant messaging apps, etc.).<\/li>\n<li>during an online search.<\/li>\n<li>on social media.<\/li>\n<li>when your child is playing a video game or watching a series or a film that is not appropriate to their age.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Teach your child to protect themselves:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>It is important not to click on links sent by strangers by email, messaging or on social media.<\/li>\n<li>During an online search, inappropriate content may appear even if the subject is unrelated to violent or pornographic content.<\/li>\n<li>On social media, inappropriate content may appear in their news feed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Guide your child:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Take an interest in the people (influencers) and content that your child follows online and on social media.<\/li>\n<li>Make it clear to your child that they can talk to you at any time, even if they are embarrassed by the content that they see.<\/li>\n<li>Advise them to start identifying trusted people (teachers, school nurses, etc.) who can help them.<\/li>\n<li>Where appropriate for their age, install parental controls.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Explain to your child why they should not share this type of content:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Violent or pornographic content may offend others.<\/li>\n<li>This type of content may be illegal; possessing or sharing it may be punishable by law.<\/li>\n<li>In Switzerland, your child is criminally liable for their actions from the age of 10.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>You have reasons for concern if your child:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>spends more and more time online or, on the contrary, avoids going online.<\/li>\n<li>often misses school.<\/li>\n<li>is getting lower grades.<\/li>\n<li>often has headaches or stomach aches.<\/li>\n<li>is sleep deprived.<\/li>\n<li>becomes aggressive.<\/li>\n<li>becomes isolated and withdrawn.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>If you think that your child has come across violent or pornographic content:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Listen to them and encourage them to talk.<\/li>\n<li>Help them understand what they have seen and reassure them:\n<ul>\n<li>Allow them to express their emotions. Your child may feel fear, anxiety, disgust, embarrassment, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Do not be judgmental.<\/li>\n<li>Give your child explanations that correspond to their age and language level. The younger they are, the simpler the words should be.<\/li>\n<li>Give general explanations and allow your child to ask questions themselves.
